The Man with the House in the Sky

A new story my friend Jason Jordan got published at www.storyglossia.com called 'The Man With The Sky In The House'. A nice one with some good pictures being painted in the mind while reading, even though I had guessed the ending, before I got there :). Though nice work Jason!

Lidt spredt fægtning

I svar til 'hvorfor er kunst til' eller på original titlen 'What is art for' har jeg tænkt lidt over, hvad det skrevne ord i form a poesi og lignende er til for. Hvilken effekt har forskellige ting på folk, og ´hvis noget gør ondt at skrive, gør det så ligeså ondt at læse det? Her er 3 tanke sekvenser, alle utitlede.

Som mørket falder på og tiden går

Quiet around here

Yea I know, it's been quiet around here lately... lots going on at work and in life general... things will get back on track eventually! The playlists have been suspended by me personally as I have been more or less listening to metal only the last few weeks. Week 44 was dedicated to Lou Reed and his first 5 albums, if we count out the experimental 'Metal Machine Music'.

No need to list the releases in other order, than how they were released, as they have gotten more or less the same amount of spins and appreciation. And I don't feel like putting notes beneath the releases, as it's Lou Reed while being godly, and it's hard to pick one of these albums as the being better than the rest!

Here's a few shots from Friday's concert at Aalborg Metal Festival 2008, I didn't get as many as I wanted as I had done the rookie photographer fuck up, I had forgot to recharge the battery for the camera from Thursday to Friday, so I had to take few pics of all bands and then hope for the best, no time or power for the moneyshot, that's also why there's only one picture of the mighty Illdisposed. Finally, a little catch up, here's the spanking new 2 weeks old playlist... huh

1: Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
This is a classic, and on vinyl it sounds so damn good, one of my alltime favorites, progressive dark soundscapes with a lot of hope included.

2: Trolle//Siebenhaar - Couple Therapy
Finally did the full length album from Trolle//Siebenhaar see the light of day. Many of you might know the band from the hit they had a couple of years ago 'Sweet Dogs', so if you liked that, now you have 11 tracks ('Sweet Dogs') included of the captivating vocals from Ane Trolle and the groovy laidback dub/reaggae/electronica from Siebenhaar. A nice match up and some great music to light up the day in the dark winter.

3: Peter Sommer - Til Rotterne Til Kragerne Til Hundene
Well, not much to say, than it still rotates here on a regular basis, see somewhere below for more info about the release :)

4: Black Sabbath - Sabotage
Again one of the old vinyls that has been dusted off. One of my favorite Sabbath records, one of the most progressive from their side, though still with a lot of catchy riffs from Iommi and Osbourne doing a good performance. Who can't enjoy tracks like: 'Hole In The Sky', 'Symptom Of The Universe', 'Megalomania' and 'Am I Going Insane'?

5: REM - Automatic For The People
I am also a big fan of REM, and this must be my favorite album by them, check out the entire album, if you already haven't, and play it back to back 5 times in a row and tell me that, that won't make you like it even more!!!

Ornette Coleman and Lou Reed

Quite a subject to kick it off with!

I've been quite busy the last week, hence nothing has been posted here! I'll soonish make up for that!

Right now I'm totally hooked on Ornette Coleman, jazz jazz all that jazz, damn he rules the sax, trompet and a few other instruments, and the composing skills the man has, damn, he really knows how to make the music both swing and progress into new and unseen and unexpected directions!

And now onto something completely else, besides that of being a musical genius, Lou Reed, I have been meaning to get decently into him for a while, and as a godsend, last week while I was browsing through a record store I found a boxset with 5 original Lou Reed albums in their pure form, alas no remastering fuck ups messing with the real deal. Damn he's good and a god, I think more will emerge here on him some day!

Now I need to catch some rest, the playlist for last week and this week are in the work and both will be published soonish!

Playlist week 42

This is what I have been blasting the last week or so!

1: Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul [Album 2008]
It still works and gets better and better for each spin it gets! The most of the reviews I've read about the album have been quite mediocre, though I think the album will stand the test of time and become yet an Oasis classic!

2: Pede B - Stadig Beskidt [Album 2008]
This album didn't catch on at first, though I gave it a second chance and that was a blessing. After 2 weeks of frequent blasting, the album has opened up and I am caught in Pede's universe! Great rapping, good flow, nice beats, decent production, most of the lyrics are also hitting a spot, in me while catching the state of the society very well!

3: Tom Waits - Used Songs 1973-1980 [Album/compilation 2001]
Nice compilation with some of the best Waits songs from the mentioned period, he's a damn soulful singer and songwriter, his rusty vocals do something for me, that's for certain. The release comes with liner notes, info about the single songs and what albums they're on, so a good place, for someone who wants to get into Tom Waits, to start.

4: Magtens Korridorer - Friværdi [Album 2006]
Friværdi means equity, nice title considering whats going on in the financial markets right now. Besides the kickass title, the music is brilliant as well, all Danes should know the radio hits: 'Lorteparforhold', 'Nordhavn Station', 'Picnic (På Kastellet)' and 'Sara Har...'. Though the rest of the album is just as strong, if not stronger at times, so go fetch, if you already haven't!

5: Cathedral - The Carnival Bizarre [Album 1995]
Doom from English Cathedral, their strongest album? Hard to say, though perhaps the most complete they have made. The stoner rock parts that later on paints the band's music, starts to show their ugly faces during this release, but damn, atmospheric music at its best.

And just a mention before I end this piece, the Finnish band Godsplague and their hardrocking metallic cover of The Beatles' 'Eleanor Rigby' has also been enjoyed quite a while during the last week! The song can be found on the sampler 'Dirty Black Summer' released by the label Stay Heavy Records.

Romain Laurent

Stumbled across some photos from this French photographer earlier this week, and damn! He has style, ideas and awesome setups, I'm impressed. I'm no really that much into photography and such, enjoys to do some occasional pictures here and there, though have most experience from live music situations, but Laurent's work amazed me!

Stalin - Diktaturets Anatomi

Just finished reading the book Stalin - Diktaturets Anatomi by Niels Erik Rosenfeldt. A nice walk through the life of Iosef Stalin, from his young days in Georgia to the top in Kremlin and his death of course.

A lot of interesting assumptions and historic events that one seldom thinks about in todays world. A wellwritten and documented book about how the Russian comunism from the beliefs of Lenin and later on Stalin, was build and how the power was consolidated by Stalin and how he ran the country/Soviet Union.

The book also opens for a lot of topics that is interesting to follow up on, like the Gulag camps, the secret police in its different forms, how Stalin went from a young freedom fighter in Georgia during the Tsar rule to who he later became. I guess I know what I will use some of my sparetime on later on.

Yet a great release

There's a lot about music right now, take it positively and check out some of the artists, I'm sure a few will hit your soft spot!

Tina Dickow released her new album 'A Beginning, A Detour, An Open Ending' a little while ago, it is a trilogy consisting of 3 EPs released as one album on 3 cds. A Tina Dickow in 3 different moods, all hitting a spot inside me. All 3 cds are stuffed with beautiful music with that certain Dickow vibe, great heartfelt singing and wellwritten tunes, I can only urge you all to check this album out sooner than later.

A little goodie for the Danish reading readers, a great column from Berlingske Tidende brought last Saturday: 'Lidt Taber Man Vel Altid...' Enjoy!

A mention of The Big Lebowski get's you far in my world, a damn good movie, I guess it's time for a white russian now and then bowling later tonight! That paired with some good and reasonable views from the writer makes it a good read.

Yes, more Danish music, why shouldn't I promote all this great music from my country?

Metal and rockabilly is the mix Volbeat is delivering, straight ahead with great details and catchy choruses. Their first album 'The Strength/The Sounds/The Songs' is quite good, I disliked it in the beginning, though it has grown a lot. Their second album 'Rock The Rebel/Metal The Devil' from last year blew me away, the 3 singles from the album 'The Garden's Tale', 'Radio Girl' and 'Sad Man's Toungue' have done their part, though the album is really strong and consistent.

The new album 'Guitar, Gangsters & Cadillac Blood' that was released a month ago or so hasn't really cuahgt me yet, though there are some good songs on it, and the more I listen, the more I seem to like it!

Playlist week 41

I'll try to update you with a small playlist each week, freaking interesting, huh? Though you might find some inspiration or an urge for trying out something new, from looking at my generic listings, who knows, we might all be positively surprised.

1: Peter Sommer - Til Rotterne Til Kragerne Til Hundene [Album 2008]
I'm a born and bred Dane, so a few Danish, if not many titles and tracks will pop up here and there, I have to live with it, so I pass the potato. Sommer's third album and a damn good one, released Monday, so I havn't given it that many spins yet, though quality all the way through and I enjoy how he play with the language. Great and saying lyrics.

2: Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul [Album 2008]

3: Beck - Modern Guilt [Album 2008]
An album that blew me away during the first spin, and I still keep on putting it in the player. Well written songs, great atmospheres, intriguing vocals, awesome production by Dangermouse, Beck in good good shape!

4: Metallica - Ride The Lightening [Album 1984]
Metallica's second album, one that never has been topped in my humble opinion! And when we are at it 'Death Magnetic' dissapear!!!! Please!!!! This is Metallica young and fresh, energetic and getting their talent in order to write great music, a great production for its time by Flemming Rasmussen and the album contains the most beautiful track ever 'Fade To Black'. This is Metallica!

5: Pede B - Stadig Beskidt [Album 2008]
Yet a Dane, this time a Rapper from Copenhagen, with his second album. I can't really decide what I think of this album, so I keep on playing it, to get into it or dismiss it, we'll see what happenes!

Oasis

New music is always nice, I thrive of music, not only new, old will do is as well, though yesterday a new album was released and I was down at the store ready to pick it up as it hit the shelves. The album, as you should have guessed by reading the headline or looking at the picture to your left, is of course the new Oasis offering 'Dig Out Your Soul'.

Back in the days I was really into Oasis, I was blown away when their first album 'Definitely Maybe' was released, and actually quite happy when it became commercial, as the other kids were looking strangely at me, when I was raving about this new English band and something called Britpop. Time went and their second album 'What's The Story (Morning Glory)' saw the light of day, and I was into that as well. Though I, as time went, became tired of all the hype and sold my 2 Oasis albums and forgot about the band, right until now.

I've only had a few listens to the new album so far, though I like what I hear. It's still Oasis, it still sounds like Oasis, but the band has become mature (that have probably happened years ago, though as written, the band hasn't existed for me since '97). Effective and well written without being a masterpiece of any kind, well- made and executed rock, that has made me realize that I need to re-purchase the 2 first Oasis albums and the rest of their discography while I am at it.

(And the artwork is quite cool, all the way from the cover artwork, to the sleeve and back cover, nice work :))

Welcome to my little blog, I've heard that's a popular phrase to start off with. Though I'm not sure this is going to be a popular spot, as it'll be my site of venting off, what I find cool, and also what I might find to suck, my look at the world of fashion, music, books, movies, food, beverages, trends, life and so forth. Will it be interesting you might wanna ask yourself? Of course I say, as few have a taste as exquisite as me, bullshit, though if you believe it, that's good ;)
